Variety is something we talk about a lot in the shop. One of the big advantages of feeding raw is that you’re not locked into one way of doing things. Different brands use different cuts of meat, sourced from different suppliers and balance things differently. Rotating brands and proteins over time helps broaden the range of nutrients your dog is getting. Mixing up proteins can make a real difference. Poultry, red meats, fish and novel proteins all bring something different nutritionally. Alongside this you can add extras such as eggs, oily fish, berries, fruit, vegetables, seeds and oils. There’s also a practical side. Products and proteins do go out of stock from time to time and dogs that are used to variety tend to cope much better when something isn’t available. We know it’s not always straightforward especially with fussy dogs. Zeus is a good example. He’s particular with his meals so we use freeze-dried and air-dried options to add variety and oils where appropriate - we’ve just introduced wheat germ oil to support his vitamin E intake. Variety doesn’t mean constant change. It’s about balance over time and finding what works for your dog. #bristolrawdog
