☀️ Early Closing - Friday ☀️ With temperatures forecast to reach 33°C tomorrow, we’ll be closing a little earlier at 3:30pm. It’s been an incredibly hot week, both for us working in the shop and for our freezers, which have been working overtime to keep all of our raw food safely frozen. As always, we’ll be on hand to help you from the freezers. During hot weather, every time a freezer door is left open, a huge amount of warm air enters, making them work even harder to recover their temperature. If you’re unsure where something is, or you’d simply like us to grab it for you, just ask. We’re always happy to help. If you need to stock up before the weekend, we’d love to see you before 3:30pm. There’s something special about meeting a new dog for the very first time. 🥹 Today we had the pleasure of welcoming this handsome boy into Bristol Raw Dog and what an absolute sweetheart he is! ❤️ From the moment he walked through the door, he was full of curiosity, manners and those ears… we couldn’t stop smiling! Last but certainly not least… Zeus! 🤣 With the heat today, Zeus had spent most of the day tucked away in the shade, so by home time he had plenty of energy to burn! Instead of his usual quick toilet break and patrol of the car park before hopping into the van, he decided it was the perfect opportunity for a full-on zoomie session. 🏃💨 After racing around the car park, he came charging straight at us at full speed. Apparently, humans are there to cushion the landing! 🤦‍♀️🤣 Thankfully no humans were harmed in the making of this video… although there were a few close calls! Next up was one of our regular boys, who we all know and absolutely adore. 🖤 As usual, he made himself completely at home and settled down to enjoy a quick chew. Although, for owners of smaller dogs, “quick” may be a slightly optimistic description! 🤣 Halfway through he decided that lying down wasn’t quite comfortable enough and instead chose to dramatically play dead while continuing to chew. We can only assume it improves the flavour! And then there is the final photo. Anyone who knows this handsome boy will know exactly where his eyes are looking. The love and adoration he has for Alisha is something really special and she is always delighted to see him walk through the door. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Tiny paws, big paws… same love of treats 🐾 It was another busy day at Bristol Raw Dog today and, despite all the hustle and bustle, we only managed to grab photos of these two gorgeous new customers who are just beginning their raw feeding journey with us. One tiny, one not-so-tiny, but both were absolute sweethearts. Sometimes the hardest part of our job is sharing the sadness that comes with loving our dogs so deeply. One of our lovely customers sadly lost her beautiful dog very suddenly. We know many of you will understand just how devastating that kind of loss can be. QUALITY CONTROL WAS IN FULL SWING TODAY… 👀 This beautiful girl decided that simply collecting her venison wasn’t enough. She needed to personally inspect the order and make sure we’d packed it correctly. A quick jump onto the counter, a thorough examination of the contents and a very serious look to confirm standards had been met. 🚨 GRASS SEED WARNING 🚨 We’ve had a huge number of customers in store today whose dogs have needed veterinary treatment for grass seeds. Some have required sedation and others surgery to remove them. Grass seeds may look harmless, but they have tiny barbs which mean they only travel one way… forwards. Once they work their way into your dog’s skin, ears, paws, nose or eyes, they often can’t work their way back out on their own. Please keep an eye out for: 🐾 Excessive paw licking or limping 👂 Head shaking or ear scratching 👃 Sneezing or nose rubbing 👁 Red, swollen or watery eyes 🩹 Swellings, abscesses or small wounds that won’t heal After every walk, especially through long grass, take a few minutes to check: • Between the toes • Inside and around the ears • Armpits and groin areas • Around the eyes and nose • Under collars and harnesses The sooner a grass seed is found, the easier it is to remove. Left untreated, they can travel deeper into the body and may require veterinary intervention. ☀️ HOT WEATHER UPDATE ☀️ Firstly, we want to say how proud we are of our Bristol Raw Dog community. Whilst we’ve missed seeing so many of your wonderful dogs recently, we’re actually really pleased that so many of you have chosen to leave them safely at home rather than bringing them out in these temperatures. Their welfare always comes first and it’s lovely to see so many owners putting their dogs’ needs ahead of everything else. ❤️ With temperatures expected to become even more extreme this week, we have made the decision to close at 3:30pm on Tuesday and Thursday. (As normal, we remain closed on Wednesday.) We’ve chosen 3:30pm as a compromise. It allows us to remain open for school pick-ups and those finishing work earlier, whilst avoiding the hottest part of the day. The shop is already extremely warm and, since moving premises, we no longer have air conditioning. Keeping the shop cooler and reducing freezer openings during the hottest hours helps protect both the food and our equipment. We also won’t be placing orders for brands that rely on courier delivery networks during this heatwave. Some suppliers have already paused courier deliveries and, to be completely honest, we understand why. We have always tried to be honest and transparent with our customers. We’d rather have a few temporary stock gaps than risk food arriving in anything less than perfect condition. As our customers know, we will never accept stock that arrives defrosted or compromised. Fussy Zeus gives these a big paws up! 🐾🍓 Anyone who knows Zeus knows how fussy he can be. Getting berries into this boy has always been a challenge, so we weren’t sure what he’d make of the new Waita freeze-dried mixed berries. Safe to say, we needn’t have worried! 🤣 We bought a packet to test before putting them on the shelves and Zeus absolutely loved them. In fact, I think it’s safe to say these have just earned themselves a permanent spot on his snack list. This handsome boy stopped by to see us today after being rescued by his new mum just a few days ago. ❤️ Sadly, he hasn’t had the easiest start in life. He’s underweight, covered in old injuries and understandably very nervous. He is also reactive around other dogs but, given what he’s been through, that’s hardly surprising. When he first arrived, he was unsure of everything around him. An hour later his tail was wagging, his confidence was growing and we were even lucky enough to receive a few kisses. 🐾 Recovery isn’t always just about healing physically. Sometimes dogs need time, patience, understanding and a chance to learn that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. We are incredibly proud of his new mum for opening her heart and home to a dog that needed a second chance. Rescue isn’t always easy, but it can be one of the most rewarding things a person ever does. We’re looking forward to supporting them both on their journey and can’t wait to watch this special boy grow stronger, healthier and happier with every visit.
